Principal Secretary Leads Miyawaki Plantation Drive in Bareilly Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign

Bareilly: As part of the Vriksharopan Mahayagya 2026 and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, Saurabh Babu, IAS, Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Rural Engineering Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Nodal Officer for Bareilly district, led an extensive tree plantation drive at multiple locations across the district on Sunday.

The plantation programme was carried out in the presence of public representatives, government officials and local residents at Adhalkhiya Gram Panchayat in Bithri Chainpur Development Block, near the Panchayat Bhawan and the Amrit Sarovar along the riverbank. Similar plantation activities were also undertaken at Barua Husainpur in Bhuta Block and Kesarpur in Faridpur Block, where saplings were planted using the Miyawaki afforestation method, known for creating dense and fast-growing urban forests.

Addressing a public gathering on the occasion, the Principal Secretary emphasised the importance of large-scale tree plantation to strengthen environmental conservation, increase green cover and ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations. He urged citizens to actively participate in the campaign by planting and nurturing more trees.

During the programme, government officials, employees and local residents took a pledge to protect the environment and ensure the proper care and maintenance of the newly planted saplings. The Principal Secretary also directed concerned officials to monitor the plantations regularly and ensure a 100 per cent survival rate through proper maintenance and protection.

Appealing to the public, Saurabh Babu called upon every citizen to contribute to environmental conservation by planting at least one tree and encouraging others to do the same.

Among those present at the event were Block Pramukh Brajesh Kumari, Chief Development Officer Devyani, District Rural Development Agency Project Director Chandra Prakash Srivastava, the Executive Engineer of the Rural Engineering Department, Assistant Commissioner (Fisheries) and Nodal Officer Gayatri Pandey, along with a large number of local residents and officials.

The plantation drive formed part of Uttar Pradesh’s statewide afforestation campaign aimed at enhancing green cover, promoting ecological sustainability and encouraging community participation in environmental protection.
